Degrees and Certifications:
The month of March, known as National Reading Month, was busy with various reading activities. In the elementary, we celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America with a week full of fun dress up events and different reading activities throughout the school. During the month of March, we also kicked off our Water Safari Reading Challenge, sponsored by Enchanted Forest Water Safari. The challenge to read for a total of six hours outside of assigned classroom reading was given to students, with the promise of a ticket for free admission to the waterpark. Students are able to continue to accumulate reading time, through May 3.
April showers bring May flowers, but the month of April also brought the New York state assessments in English Language Arts. Our students in grades 3-6 participated in the state assessments in ELA, and will be taking the Math and Science assessments in May and June. This year, for the first time ever, Remsen students will participate in computer based testing in ELA and mathematics. Our fourth grade students were chosen to lead the way as we move towards the goal of having all students testing on computers. Our students and teachers worked very hard to prepare for and complete these exams.
Looking ahead into May and June, there will be a number of events and celebrations taking place. From our Arbor Day Celebration and Olympic Day, to our final Evening of Excellence for the school year and the pre-Kindergarten and sixth grade graduations. Please visit the district website and look for information that is sent home from school regarding these and other events. Also, be on the lookout for more information about our intermediate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) camp that will be taking place this summer.
It is amazing how quickly the school year has gone by and how much learning and growing has taken place. Thank you so much for your continued support. As always, if you have any questions or would like to chat, please do not hesitate to contact me.
