Mr. Gary Winghart

The beginning of a new school year is an exciting time for everyone. Each new year brings with it new experiences and opportunities, new teachers, new students, new classes and new adventures in learning. In addition to all of the “new” and the “firsts,” are the familiar faces and the welcome routines of the school year. Together, the new and the familiar, are what make the beginning of the school year a very special time. The summer has been wonderful, but it’s now time for the school year to begin! I am looking forward to the 2022-2023 school year and the great time that we will have learning together at Remsen Elementary School!

Throughout this summer, the elementary school has been very busy with a variety of summer enrichment programs and activities. Students have been able to participate in STEAM camps, academic programs, craft camps and more. Our STEAM camps, Mythbusters and Rams Maker Camp included field trips and a variety of experiments, projects and challenges for students to engage in. Our Kindergarten Kick Start program offered some of our youngest Rams the opportunity to spend time with their peers, while engaging in fun academic activities to give them a “kick start” in preparation for kindergarten. All of our summer programs have provided students with an opportunity to connect with teachers and peers while practicing academic skills and engaging in fun enrichment activities. A special thank you to the teachers and staff that planned, prepared and worked to make our summer programs successful.

We have many great events, activities and opportunities to be excited about this coming school year. This year, we will be introducing students and families to the Positivity Project -- a positive character education program that will be incorporated into each school day to teach students about 24 positive character strengths. We will also be participating together in a One School, One Book reading event this year. In addition to these new and exciting opportunities, we will have all of the wonderful events and activities that we typically enjoy throughout the school year.

Our first day of school for students will be Tuesday, September 6. Before then, I look forward to seeing everyone at our Back-to-School Night on Thursday, September 1. This event will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the elementary school. Please join us that evening to visit the school and have the opportunity to see your child's classroom and meet their teacher. We also encourage students to bring their school supplies to the Back-to-School Night so that they can be left in the classroom before the first day of school.

As always, if you have any comments, questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. It is only in working together that we will be able to provide the best for the students of Remsen Elementary School.
