Technology 8 Syllabus Ms. DiNitto
Syllabus Overview: Technology 8
Technology 8 is a 10 week class that starts where Technology 8 left off. Students are encouraged to think outside the box to solve problems. All projects are subject to change at the teacher’s discretion.
- Parts of a System – combines the parts of a system, the design process, science principles to design and build a Rube Goldberg type machine. The object of the machine is to utilize a minimum of 5 of the 6 simple machines to raise a flag. The more complicated, the better!
- The students use the design process to create and build a CO2 dragster. We learn a bit about aerodynamics, types of drawings, and machine shop safety and then we hold a friendly race to see whose car is the fastest.
- Manufacturing processes are taught in a unit where we create an assembly line to build a game. The importance of good directions is stressed. Students will try to optimize the process to eliminate bottlenecks and control the quality of the product produced.
Classroom Rules-Respect! I expect all of my students to treat each other with respect and courtesy – no name calling, no put-downs, etc.
-No horseplay! Students are expected to act in a calm manner at all times to prevent distractions and possible accidents in the shop.
-Be Prompt & Prepared for Class! Be in the class room, prepared for class, when the bell rings.-Any school wide behavior policy is expected to be followed. This means no cell phones!
-Pet Peeves (avoid these behaviors!): Lying, students talking when I am talking, students not listening, rudeness, wasting materials
Expectations
All students are expected to:
-Try your best at every assignment!
-Ask me if you do not understand what you are supposed to do! If you do not understand when I am explaining the assignment, ask – chances are someone else is just as confused!
- LISTEN when I am talking!! Much of the information is given in multiple ways: verbally, written, and demonstrated. The most important points will be discussed - so LISTEN!!-Come to class prepared and ready to learn.
-Complete all assignments and hand each assignment in at the proper due date and time. If you skip a project, or just never hand it in, you cannot pass the class!-Participate in group work. All participants in a group will not necessarily earn the same grade.
-Practice respect and tolerance for each other in the classroom.Homework
Homework assignments will usually be given class time to complete. If you do not finish in the given class time, it is your responsibility to complete the assignment outside of class and hand it in! I cannot grade something that is in your locker, backpack, or at home!
The assignments will also be in the Google Classroom. You will be notified if you are required to hand in the assignment through Google Classroom. Extra copies of the assignment and directions will also be available there.
