    Class Description:

                Resource Room is a service that is provided to a student who has been identified by the Committee on Special Education (CSE) as having a condition which interferes with his/her ability to attain academic success independently. 

    The Resource Room at Remsen High School is designed to develop, strengthen and improve skills necessary for academic success.  Student receive direct, specialized instruction, academic remediation and assistance with assignments and test preparation.  Self-advocacy skills and transitional planning are also apart of the instructional program.  Students’ progress is monitored and reviewed throughout the school year in accordance with their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

     

    Goals:

           To assist students with attaining skills necessary to improve their level of independence in completing academic tasks.

           To work on and monitor student’ progress towards meeting IEP goals.

           To assist students with improving organizational skills

           To assist students with completing all courses of study

           To maintain communication with the student, parent, teachers, guidance counselor, and other support staff involved with the education of each student

    Expectations:

    Students are expected to:

           Be on time for class

           Be prepared for class with necessary materials 

           Work throughout the entire class period

           Utilize study materials (study cards, internet resources, etc)

           Complete work assigned by the resource room teacher

           Work independently on seat work unless directed by the teacher to work in groups or partners

           Work cooperatively with peers and adults within the classroom

           Seek assistance from adults appropriately when work is not understood

           Respond in a positive manner to teacher directions

    Class Description:

                12:1:1 English Language Arts is a service provided to students who have been identified by the Committee on Special Education (CSE) as having a condition which interferes with his/her ability to attain academic success within the mainstreamed English Language Arts class independently. 

                The 12:1:1 English Language Arts course at Remsen High School is designed to develop, strengthen and improve decoding, reading fluency, reading comprehension, critical thinking, and written language skills.  Students will receive specialized instruction within their areas of weakness.  Additionally, students’ IEP goals will be progress monitored throughout the school year. 

     

    Goals:

           To assist students with improving their reading decoding, comprehension, fluency and written language skills.

           To develop critical thinking skills.

           To work on and monitor students’ progress towards meeting IEP goals.

           To maintain communication with students, parents, teachers, guidance counselors as well as other support staff involved with the education of each student.

    Grading Policy

    Each assignment will be worth a specific percentage of your grade.  Graded assignments are

           Independently take out all learning materials and be in their seat prior to the bell ringing 

           Work throughout the entire class period

           Complete work assigned by the teacher

           Work as independently and seek assistance from adults appropriately when work is not understood

           Work cooperatively with peers and adults within the classroom
