Hello Parents/Guardians,High frequency words are the words that your child will see most often as they read their "just-right" books this year. The more words your child can identify quickly, the better reader they will become this year. The list has been broken into three sections for each trimester. As a class, we will focus on these words throughout the trimester. Please work on reading and identifying these words with your child at home. Please see links below to download the high frequency word lists and game ideas at home. Here are a few interactive ways to learn high frequency words at home:
- Make flashcards and hang them around the house, playing games like "I spy a word that starts with..." and have your child find and read the word.
- Use flashcards to play a high frequency word hunt. Once your child has found the words, have them read them to you.
- Clap, stomp, snap, sing, whisper, yell, silly voice say and spell words.
- "Hunt" for words during nightly reading. Highlight them with highlighter tape, write them on sticky notes/notecards.
- Write three-four unknown words on the mirror in the bathroom and have your child read them in the morning and at night when they brush their teeth. Erase and add a word when they have mastered one!
- Build and read words using play dough, sand, shaving cream, etc.
- Create your own game with your child! They will forget they are learning if it is a game.
