• Students in Mrs. Haley-Platt’s eighth grade English class recently completed a unit studying poetry and put their new knowledge to work holding their own poetry slam in class.

Through their class lessons, they learned about different forms of poetry, analyzed poems and watched videos of poetry slams. Students then created their own “found poems” from books and newspapers in their classroom.

On November 3, the class held a “Poe-Tree” slam as each student wrote their poem on a paper leaf, read it aloud to the class and then posted it on their classroom “Poe-tree,” named for author and poet Edgar Allan Poe.
