    Mrs. Piaschyk’s 5th Grade Reading Grading Procedures

    This year, I will be grading your child on many different realms of their education including independent work  and collaborative (group) work.  Their trimester grade will be 70% independent and 30% collaborative.  All grades will be based on the 4 point scale listed below.  

    Academic Performance level Key

    4.0 – Exceeding New York State and District Grade Level Standards

    3.5 – In addition to score 3.0, sometimes exceeds Standards

    3.0 – Meeting New York State and District Grade Level Standards

    2.5 – In addition to score 2.0, meeting some Standards

    2.0 – Progressing towards New York State and District Grade Level Standards

    1.5 – Performing below standards, demonstrating some progress

    1.0 Performing below New York State and District Grade Level Standards

     

    The following is a description of the different areas in which your child will be graded in Reading:

    • Classwork and Exit tickets: Your child will be asked to complete some assignments during their scheduled class.  This includes daily assignments and exit tickets.  Some of these assignments will be independent and some will be collaborative (group) in nature.  
    • Homework: Your child will be asked to do occasional homework assignments.  Your child is also expected to read for 30 minutes at least 5 days a week.
    • Reading level: Your child will earn an independent reading grade on a trimester assessment (running record) based on the 4 point scale.
    • Participation and Effort: Your child will be graded on whether they are an active participant in daily lessons and on the amount of effort that they put forth in a trimester.  
    • Tests and Quizzes: Your child will be given tests and quizzes throughout the semester.
