The speech and language department in Remsen consists of a part-time Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped, Jane White. Background and qualifications: Jane is certified to teach as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped in the public schools by the NYS Dept. of Education. In addition, she has certification in Reading and General Speech (public speaking). On the national level, she has her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech/ Language/ Hearing Association (ASHA). She has a BS and MS in Speech Pathology from SUNY Albany. She is licensed by the State of New York, although she has opted not to register at this time because she does not do any private practice. Jane has over thirty years experience in a variety of clinic and educational settings. She has special interests in reading, phonological awareness, deaf education, and autism spectrum disorders. She has authored the Speech Sound Awareness Program used in our Kindergarten classes.
