Remsen Central School's Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP) is outlined below.  This information is included in the handbooks given to all students during the first week of school.  A parent/guardian must sign the policy along with the student.  A student that has not turned in the signed AUP will not have access to the District's technology.  All forms are compiled and lists are given to each teacher to ensure compliance.

ACCEPTABLE USE OF TECHNOLOGY POLICY

 

I. A. These guidelines apply to any student using a computer in the Remsen Central School District.

  1.  
    1. Exercise care with the equipment. Proper behavior and respect in using

the equipment is expected at all times --- keyboards should stay on the tables, do not place food or drink near the computers, be sure hands are clean, use a light touch on the keyboard, etc.

2. Report all problems to the staff member in charge. If you are having a problem with a computer, printer, screen, etc., you must NOT try to fix the problem.

3. Only school provided diskettes, CD-ROMS, etc. may be used on the system. Because of copyright laws, no outside software (diskettes, CD- ROMS, etc.) may be copied. Also, users must not copy any system or application software.

4. The school reserves the right to confiscate and review the contents of any diskette, CD-ROM disk or file.

5. You may not use obscenities, vulgarities (dirty language), threats or other inappropriate language.

6. You will be limited to appropriate use of software as designated by authorized school personnel. Unauthorized access of other students' passwords or files is not acceptable. Access to operating files and/or teachers' files is prohibited.

7. The computers may not be used for commercial purposes or the financial gain of an individual, outside of the school curriculum.

8. You are encouraged to work on the computers during your free time, but preference will be given to people with assigned work to do. Use of computers during non-school hours will require prior approval by appropriate school personnel.

I B. Internet Use: The Remsen Central School is providing Internet access to members of the school community because it is a powerful learning tool. This access comes to Remsen Central School via the Mohawk Regional Information Center. Remsen Central School District's policy is in alignment with the Mohawk Regional Information Center Acceptable Use Policy.

1. All uses of the Internet, World Wide Web, etc., must be consistent with educational goals and purposes. Al users must conduct themselves in a responsible, ethical, and polite manner whenever they use the Internet. No one may use the Internet for illegal, inappropriate obscene, or commercial purposes.

2. Students with E-mail capability may use it for academic purposes only.

3. A student must have written permission from a teacher or staff member before downloading anything.

    1. Upon the request of a teacher or staff member, students will

explain why they are using the Internet, produce a site-history, or log off.

5. Students must return the Internet Use Consent form signed by their parents or guardians before logging on to the Internet.

C. All students of Remsen Central School District are expected, at all times, to exhibit proper behavior and respect when working with technology. All students will be expected to read the Acceptable Use of Technology policy, and sign a statement acknowledging their agreement to abide by these guidelines. A student who does not adhere to the policy may be subject to one or more of the following penalties:

1. Detention

2. Restriction of computer privileges

3. Suspension of computer privileges

Please read and discuss the attached policy with your son or daughter. If you wish to give permission to your child to have internet access, please complete the form below. Please include the phone information in case it is necessary to verify your signature. Both you and your child should sign the form. Your child should return the form to school as directed.

I have read the discussed the Acceptable Use of Technology form with my child, and I hereby give my child permission to access the Internet.

I understand that my child is responsible for using the Internet and other technology properly, as set forth in the policy:
